Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) Hosts Externship Program with Local Educators
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. – Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) recently hosted a group of Craven County School teachers as part of an externship program focused on preparing students for careers in industry.
Five educators from local schools participated in the externship program that took place at FRCE with two sessions held in late June. The sessions each lasted four days and introduced teachers to FRCE’s workforce and operations.

Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE) Team Members Get Students Excited for STEM Careers Through STARBASE
JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. – Team members from Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE) recently volunteered their time to get local fifth-grade students excited about the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as part of the nationwide Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration (STARBASE) program.
This was the first full year of the program at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, with certified instructors using hands-on activities and technology to show the young students how these fields impact the military today and in the future.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) Hosts Elementary Students For STEM Tour
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (July 26, 2023) Elementary school students attending Starbase Victory MedBase summer camp, hosted by Portsmouth City School District, toured Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) July 26, as part of an effort by the district to expose children to the world of STEM.
The students visited portions of the historic portion of the hospital in building one, which is the original hospital built in 1830, and listened to presentations by personnel from various clinics.

Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport’s Bring a Child to Work Day Engages Kids in STEM Careers, Navy Traditions
NEWPORT, R.I. – Hundreds of employees and their children — or grandchildren, nieces or nephews — roamed the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport campus on June 23 for Bring a Child to Work Day, the annual event with dozens of demonstrations designed to give kids a glimpse of what their family members do for work.
“I want to welcome everyone to Bring a Child to Work Day. We have a great schedule of events today as you go around,” Division Newport Commanding Officer Capt. Chad Hennings said to a crowd of more than 100 employees and children gathered around the command flagpole just before the start of morning colors. “I hope you have a good time here and see a little bit about what your moms and dads do while they’re here at NUWC Division Newport.”

Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Kicks Off its Summer STEM Academy for Regional Middle School Students
DAHLGREN, Va. – Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) is committed to providing fun and engaging opportunities for students across the region to gain unique experiences in STEM fields, even during summer vacation.
Over the course of two days, NSWCDD scientists and engineers participated in the 2023 Summer STEM Academy at King George Middle School, the site of the annual event.

NIWC Atlantic Supports Coca Cola 600 STEM Expo in North Carolina
Ladies and gentleman, start your engines! NIWC Atlantic’s STEM team waved the green flag on an exciting summer of learning with a kick-off event Memorial Day weekend at the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. STEM volunteers assisted nearly 400 kids in constructing balloon-powered racecars as part of the Speed Street STEAM Expo. Interested students also took their interaction a mile further with the AWS DeepRacer technology by programming remote control cars to learn a race course.
