Some prefer to stay on land, but David Hague, Ph.D., takes his electrical engineering doctoral degree beneath the surface to modernize the Navy’s sonar systems. David serves the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. Since joining the team in September 2015, David has completed groundbreaking work on next generation sonar systems supporting advances in Naval undersea capabilities. David’s accomplishments also impact the air and space community, specifically his work on active remote sensing systems such as radar.
David recognizes that SMART gave him the freedom to pursue novel ideas that may have initially been hard to get funding for. David said, “SMART provided me that ideal setting and my research and the DoD are still benefitting from SMART’s initial investment in me.”
David’s favorite thing about his job? The fact that his work has purpose and “has the potential to substantially impact the technology the Navy uses in executing its mission.”
David continues to share his knowledge with the broader community through his publications and participation in international exercises to advance littoral continuous active sonar technology in the Mediterranean.
