Who would imagine graduating college in the midst of a worldwide pandemic? SMART Scholar Daniel Gabriel could not, but was grateful for the fulltime employment SMART offered after he saw peers struggling to start their careers. Armed with the internships from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center – Newport Division and mentorship from Donna Matthews, Daniel was able to begin his career as an electrical engineer. Daniel says, “Working for the Navy you get to be involved with cutting edge engineering. For me this meant embedded systems and simulators for submarines.” Daniel works to design test equipment and simulators to ensure proper functionality of submarine weapons.
Daniel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
