In 2018, the Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Division in Crane, Indiana, sponsored Katherine Pfeiffer to receive a SMART Scholarship to pursue her degree at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The SMART program allowed her to focus and dive deeper into her studies and gain higher education. While interning at her sponsoring facility, Katherine applied her knowledge that she received in classes. “My eyes were opened to all of the topics that electrical engineers can study,” she says.” Based off of my internship experiences, I was able to narrow down my degree focus to communications and signal processing.” Katherine completed her joint BS/MS degree in electrical engineering in May 2021 and began her employment with Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Division. When Katherine is not paving the path for engineers at work, she can be found outdoors discovering new hiking trails.
